Library – Movie Speech

You go Elizabeth Taylor protect that library.

Cleopatra: How DARE you and the rest of your barbarians set fire to my library! Play conqueror all you want, Mighty Caesar! Rape, murder, pillage thousands, even millions of human beings! But neither you nor any other barbarian has the right to destroy one human thought!

The famous “burning” of the library by Caesar in 48 BCE occurred while Cleopatra was trapped in the palace with him. While the fire damaged parts of the city and potentially some books near the docks, the main library collection likely continued to exist in some form, or she worked to restock it, as evidenced by the transfer of the Pergamum collection shortly after.
